Lord Mayor attends SAGE shed opening

On Tuesday 19th April 2016 the Lord Mayor of Sheffield,  Councillor Talib Hussain, officiated at a grand opening for a new shed on SAGE’s allotment site.

Our's is a shed with a difference! It is big enough to accommodate 20 people, has large double-glazed windows and patio doors, slick kitchen units and an insulating green roof.  “It’s grander that my kitchen back home” commented SAGE staff member, Spike Steadman, as he helped members prepare a communal lunch after a morning’s gardening and art activity.

This state of the art construction cost £21,000, raised by SAGE from a variety of local and national charities.  It was installed just before Christmas to ensure members can be dry and warm at all times of year.  SAGE Director, Diana Tottle, says “This shed enables us to provide high quality support in a relaxed setting to adults with complex mental and physical health problems and its green roof fits in beautifully with the allotment setting.”

The opening event featured speeches and ribbon-cutting by the Lord Mayor followed by a performance by SAGE women singers including a rendition of a humorous ditty: “Allotment shed”.
